Greetings, all.
Get out your paint brushes and get to work! For the last tournament of 2010, we will be awarding an extra special painting award. The competition? Your 50-point Steamroller army must be fully painted. This includes fully based. Extra merits to conversions and unique paint schemes.

The specific date is yet to be determined. The army you enter into the competition must be the one you play that day. The format will be a 50-point Steamroller tournament, with Steamroller coins being given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. The painting award will be a $100 credit on the Privateer Press online store, good towards any individual bits (great for converting or filling out your units with the poses you like), apparel, P3 modeling supplies or prints.

Please note this is a competition...if there is only one entry, we aren't going to give out this award by default. So encourage your regular opponents to paint as well!

Let Jordon or I know if you have any questions. Now get painting!

Zaxon,

I think having more painting contests is fantastic, and army level events really push the local community to get a lot done. Kudos.

Great local support with cool swag is one place the GW falls flat, and where I think that Privateer really leads the pack. I understand that the painting awards have been made up of extra pins and medals from past leagues, etc.., and I think even with something like this, that should be the way to go. I think a big reason why we come out to tournaments is to win the items that can't be bought. Winning bits, or models, or gift certs are things we can do with the earnings from our regular jobs. Being awarded coins, and medals, and trophies are what keeps it interesting.

I know that PP doesn't offer much in the way of league/tournament support for modeling/painting, but I hope that changes in the future. Until then, I hope that painting awards can still be the stuff that can't be bought.

Engine - I do understand that having the awards be cool things you can't buy. However, these things are getting harder to find as they were MK I prizes.

Look at it this way... If you win, get something you wouldn't normally get. Personally I'm going get one of the cool art prints that I keep wanting. It's a spiffy treat that I wouldn't normally get :)

I appreciate the input and sentiment, Engine. The idea behind offering a credit on the online store is that it does give you, the players, an opportunity to get things you can't just buy off the shelves in the store. That can be the individual bits for a conversion you've been thinking about doing, or a t-shirt displaying the colors of your favorite faction, an extreme model or a print of your favorite artwork from the Iron Kingdoms. None of these are things that are available to retailers, and are a bit more practical than medals or coins. Besides, the prize support that is available from Privateer Press right now is very event specific...the medals and pins given out in the past are becoming harder and harder to get.

I'm assuming that since there is no specific date mentioned here that the 50pt steamroller is a ways away, also giving us ample time to get our brushes wet. Is there a ballpark time to help us budget our time? Like is it going to be the last month of the year's event, something before the holiday season, etc? I'm game for it and already have the list in mind!

On a not so unrelated subject, any plans to get those painting sessions going? If not at the Q, anyone have an interest in setting up a regular (likely weekly) dedicated painting group? I know it will help me put the time into it I know I need to.

Cheers!

The painting competition will be held at the December tournament, which I suspect will be on a Saturday mid-month, before the holidays bring the world to a halt in their icy cold grip. Figure the 11th or 18th.

I would love to do painting sessions Nick. We should set up a time for a bunch of us to get together semi-regularly at the store. Any suggestions for time people?
